James Kennedy is an Australian entrepreneur, investor and business leader, best known for building and transforming some of Australia’s most respected premium retail businesses.
After beginning his career in investment banking with Deutsche Bank, James joined the family business in 2008 with a vision to redefine luxury retail in Australia. Under his leadership, Kennedy evolved from a successful jewellery retailer into one of the country’s leading luxury groups, representing many of the world’s most prestigious watch and jewellery maisons while setting new benchmarks in client experience, retail innovation and brand partnerships.
In one of the most significant strategic decisions seen in the Australian luxury market, James led the divestment of Kennedy’s Rolex and Patek Philippe businesses. At a time when these were considered among the industry’s most valuable and established assets, he made the bold decision to realise their value, freeing capital to pursue a far broader long-term vision.
That vision became Kennedy Consolidated, an investment and operating company focused on acquiring, growing and transforming premium and consumer brands across Australia and New Zealand. The company’s first acquisition, the LEGO® Certified Stores business across Australia and New Zealand, marked the beginning of a diversified portfolio built around exceptional brands, operational excellence and long-term value creation.
Today, James leads both House of Kennedy and Kennedy Consolidated with a philosophy centred on disciplined growth, entrepreneurial thinking and enduring partnerships. Whether investing in globally recognised brands or building businesses from within, his focus remains the same: creating organisations that combine commercial performance with exceptional customer experiences.
Known for his strategic vision and willingness to challenge convention, James has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s most progressive business leaders. His work spans luxury retail, consumer brands, investment and business transformation, with a track record of identifying opportunities ahead of the market and executing them with conviction.
James believes the world’s greatest businesses are built for generations, not quarters, a philosophy that continues to guide every investment, every acquisition and every brand under the Kennedy Consolidated portfolio.
